Facilities

Steeped in history and perpetually beautiful, The Penn is much more than just a castle. We offer spacious dining areas, glorious gardens and even a helipad

Before even entering the Castle, you will be met by the most magnificent sight of landscaped gardens and terraces, with a stunning array of mature trees and exotic flora – against the backdrop of the beautiful English Channel that lies beyond.

Grounds and Gardens

Immediately surrounding The Penn is a series of individually landscaped pathways and terraces, offering an abundant choice of stunning spots for outdoor entertaining.

Peppered with low-lying hedges and sweeping lawns, there is beauty in variety – and something to suit every mood, season and taste. Our English garden is full of charm, while on the south-west of the estate lies the magnificent Italian garden, and below the Castle is a stunning waterfall and tranquil Japanese tea house.

Neighbouring Area

Beyond the Castle grounds the paths continue, passing the ancient ruins of the 12th century church of St Andrews. Carrying along this path and down the hill a little, you’ll find yourself at the sheltered cove of Church Ope.

This is the closest beach and is both picturesque and secluded, giving it a very charming vibe. Just above Church Ope stands the awesome remains of Rufus Castle, the oldest castle on Portland.

Swimming Pool

Classically themed with beautiful French windows leading onto the terrace, the indoor pool is one of The Penn’s main draws during the winter months. And just to make sure you’re fully pampered, we can even arrange for a beauty therapist or masseuse to visit you at the Castle.

The main pool is drained and covered with flooring from April to October, converting it into a beautiful Orangery-style banqueting suite for parties and dinners for up to 100.

Parking

Our car park, to the north of the Castle, can comfortably accommodate around 20 cars.

Helipad

If, after your wedding, you wish to kick off your honeymoon in opulent style by being whisked away to the nearest international airport, then The Penn’s very own helipad can accommodate. Other guests are also welcome to use the helipad by prior arrangement.
